When life happens, you need a plan! MadisonReadyFest is a free one-day event on Saturday April 14th from 10 AM- 2 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1297 Slaughter Road. The event is supported by the City of Madison, with City officials making presentations. There will be police, fire, 20 informational booths, 10 guest speakers and mini classes covering various topics including: financial planning, medical screening, natural disasters, child safety, self-defense, career networking, water filtration, food storage and gardening. Our aim is to help individuals and families to become self-reliant and prepared for emergencies.

Brad will be presenting on Hazardous Weather Conditions.

"I grew up on the Great Plains of south central Kansas along the Chisholm Trail in Tornado Alley. I guess you could say mother nature caught my eye at an early age. Storm chasing has always been a passion of mine.

"During severe weather I devote all of my efforts to keep you and your family safe with the First Alert Storm Trackers.

"I joined the weather department of WAFF in November of 1996. Before coming to Alabama I was the Chief Meteorologist in North Platte, NE.

He and his wife Brenda live in Madison with their two boys, Ross and Drake. They also have two dogs, Hershey and Shelby.

At no cost to you, we will have representatives from Primerica and LPL, along with information from "One for the Money."   • Self Defense: taught by Lt. Kamas of the Madison City Police Dept.
  • sharing opportunities to serve in our community
  • Youth life skills: Youth Minister, Greg Chandler, from Madison Church of Christ on Hughes at Gooch will help us become spiritually prepared, teaching us about "The Big Picture".
  • Job Club: A non-denominational group of volunteers who have helped 3,500 people from GEDs to PhDs prepare for and find employment.

Health & Wellness

When life happens, you need to be healthy and strong

  • Medical Health: Huntsville Hospital Mobile Unit will provide education and screenings
  • Physical Health: The YMCA will provide a representative at a booth to provide information to patrons. There will also be two interactive fitness demonstrations throughout the day.
  • Mental and Emotional: local therapist, Russ Beck will be at a booth to talk with patrons, as well as making a presentation on Emergency Mental Health Prevention Strategies
  • Nutrition: Registered local nutritionist, Bekah Dewitt, will present information, nutrition and healthy snacks


Learning today for a better tomorrow

  • College and Trade Schools: We will have local colleges and community colleges/trade schools showcase how they can work with both traditional post high school students as well as non-traditional college students.
  • Weather: We will have a booth sponsored by a local TV station to showcase how they prepare forecasts and put out alerts during times of inclement weather as well as emergency situations.
  • Communication: Booth with HAM radio equipment to teach the community how to report and disseminate information during times of emergency or crisis situations.
